Who is a Young Adult Carer?
Young Adult Carers are young people aged between 17.5 and 25 years old who are responsible for looking after or supporting another person with a long term serious health condition or disability, mental health problem, alcohol or drug addiction.
Overview
Derbyshire County Council funds Derbyshire All-Age Carers Support Service (DAACSS) to provide support to Young Adult Carers across the county (not Derby city).
What is offered?
Derbyshire All Age Carers Service support Young Adult Carers as they transition into adulthood and independence while they continue to provide unpaid care.
Services and support provided include:
- Support to access a Carers Assessment (once 18 years old)
- One to one sessions with a Young Adult Carer Support Worker
- Group learning sessions and respite activities
- Emergency Planning
- Support with transition into higher education or employment
- Help with finances and accessing other services
- Careers support
- Emotional support
- Liaise with school, college, university or training provider on your behalf, and
- Referrals and getting support
Make a referral
Anyone can make a referral including family members, however, parental permission is needed for those under 18 years. Please contact us to discuss the referral if you’re in any doubt about the eligibility of the young person.
