Support for Parent Carers

A Parent Carer is classed as a parent or person with parental responsibility for a child or young person under the age of 18, who provides extra, regular and substantial care due to disability, chronic illness or additional needs.

Overview

Derbyshire County Council does not fund Derbyshire All Age Carers Support Service (DAACSS) to support this group of Carers, until the young person you look after turns 17.5 years old.

What is offered

For support in the Derbyshire area, parents can contact 'Call Derbyshire' on 01629 533190.

Services and support provided by DAACSS

Parent Carers are able to register with Derbyshire All-Age Carers Support Service (DAACSS) once the child they look after turns 17, and will be able to access a Carers Assessment when the person they look after approaches the transition age for adulthood.

Parent carers may be supported to apply for grants including Carers Trust and Household Support Grants, or to access Legal Clinics.

Sibling Carers and Young Carers within the family

Consider that if you have another child who is helping to take care of their sibling, they will be able to access support via Young Carers or Young Adult Carers services.
