What is Access to Work?

Access to Work is a government scheme that provides practical and financial support to help people with a disability, or those with health conditions, start or stay in work. It ensures that barriers to employment are reduced by funding adjustments and assistance tailored to individual needs.

Access to Work helps remove barriers so that people with a disability can thrive in employment. It’s flexible and personalised.

Who can apply?

Anyone aged 16 or over who:

  • has a disability or health condition (including mental health)
  • is in paid employment, self-employment, or about to start a job, work trial, or apprenticeship

What support can you get?

Access to Work can help with:

  • specialist equipment (e.g. adapted keyboards, screen readers)
  • travel costs if you can't use public transport
  • support workers (e.g. job coaches, interpreters)
  • mental health support (e.g. coping strategies, workplace adjustments)
