Project SEARCH is a supported internship programme for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who want to move into paid work.
The programme takes place at ASDA in Langley Mill and is delivered by YMCA Key College in partnership with the Direct Education Business Partnership (DEBP), Derbyshire County Council and DFN Project SEARCH.
About the programme
This is a one-year, full-time supported internship designed to help young people build the skills and experience needed for employment.
You will:
- Take part in real work placements at ASDA
- Learn in a workplace environment every day
- Be supported by a job coach, tutor and workplace mentor
- Attend daily classroom sessions focused on:
- Employability skills
- Communication
- Independent living
The aim is to help you move into paid employment.
Who can apply?
You may be able to apply if you:
- are aged 16 to 24 years old
- have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
- can attend Monday to Friday
- can travel to and from ASDA Langley Mill
- are motivated to work towards a job

What a typical day looks like
Each day includes a mix of:
- classroom learning focused on employability
- practical work experience in store departments
- support from your job coach while working
- time to reflect on your progress with your team
