Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice (DPCV) is a registered charity run by volunteers who are parent carers for children and young people who are disabled and /or have special educational needs.
The members are all deeply passionate about what they do. We are independent of the Local Authority, but work together with services across, health, education and social care to ensure the parent carer voice is heard.
- We do this to improve services to ensure all young people get to have an equitable opportunity to realise their potential.
- Our aim is to empower parent carers, by networking and sharing knowledge
- We do this so parent carers do not feel they are alone.

Inclusion Support Advisory Workshop
An overview of the work and impact of the Inclusion Support Advisory Service (ISAS) in Derbyshire schools. Facilitated by Rebecca Grundy from Derbyshire County Council.
About the service: ISAS actively promotes the nurture, participation, and achievement of all children and young people by proactively responding to their unique characteristics, strengths, needs, choices, and aspirations. They are committed to:
- Championing all children and young people so they achieve, thrive, and fulfil their potential regardless of background, identity, ability, or circumstance.
- Actively removing barriers to children and young people’s participation, ensuring a high-quality, meaningful learning experience and a sense of belonging that prepares them well for their next stage in life or adulthood.
- Working together to promote high levels of equity, equality of access, opportunity, and excellence while recognising and celebrating diversity.
- Working in co-production with children, young people, and their parent carers, so they can participate in decision-making.

Sensory Processing and Sleep
Join Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice for an informative online workshop with Nickie Sutton, Specialist Sleep Practitioner and Trainer. This session will focus on sensory processing and sleep.
To sleep well, we need to feel calm, safe, and comfortable.
Children and young people with sensory differences often experience heightened anxiety and overwhelm before settling down, and discomfort can disrupt their sleep or wake them up during the night.
Join Nickie Sutton, specialist sleep practitioner and trainer, for an insightful session on how sensory differences affect sleep and practical strategies to help. Nickie will explain why normal sleep strategies often don’t work for children and young people with sensory differences and provide updated, effective approaches.
Why Attend?
- Understand: Learn how sensory differences impact sleep.
- Strategies: Discover practical, effective strategies tailored for children and young people with sensory differences.
- Support: Gain valuable insights from a seasoned expert with extensive experience and personal understanding.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to gain valuable insights and support for improving your child’s sleep!
Date: Tuesday 17 June 2025, 10:00am to 12noon

Local Support Group Survey
One of DPCV's current initiatives is to build a comprehensive network of support groups available to parents and carers across Derbyshire. As you may know, DPCV's new website is under construction, and they plan to feature an interactive map highlighting the various support groups in the region.
To make this happen, they need your help! They've created a short survey and would appreciate it if you could take a few moments to complete it. By sharing details about any support groups you are aware of, whether it's a local coffee meet-up, or something more structured, you'll be helping us connect parents and carers in need of vital peer support.
