Completing Sensory Processing Needs (SPN) training is highly recommended before using the Sensory Processing Needs Toolkit. Within children's services, the following support services offer a range of training opportunities to settings and schools. At the discretion of Heads of Service, this training may be commissioned to other partners and parents.
Early Years SEN Service
The Early Years SEN Service provides a training session for Early Years providers, school staff and professionals working with children with sensory processing needs. They also offer bespoke training for whole settings which can be booked directly through the service by emailing CS.EYSENService@derbyshire.gov.uk.
Although offered through an early years perspective, the training reflects the needs of children of all ages with SPN and is offered to partners.
This training aims to support practitioners to:
- Develop an understanding of sensory processing and explore the impact of sensory processing needs on children's sensory and emotional regulation.
- Explore practical ways of supporting sensory and emotional regulation.
- Explore strategies and resources to support children to regulate their sensory systems using steps 1 and 2 of the Derbyshire Approach to Sensory Processing Needs. Training can be accessed by visiting Derbyshire Early Years Service Eventbrite Events - Upcoming Activities and Tickets.
Inclusion Support Advisory Service (ISAS)
The Inclusion Support Advisory Service (ISAS) provides a comprehensive and established sensory processing training offer for schools and settings. This includes core modules and bespoke packages that can be booked directly through the school’s Inclusion Support Advisory Teacher (ISAT). Our training supports staff to develop a strong understanding of sensory processing needs and how these can be met through whole‑school inclusive practice, targeted adaptations and the effective implementation of the Derbyshire Graduated Response. ISAS also offers advice and guidance to help schools create sensory‑inclusive environments that enable children and young people to engage, participate and thrive.
Educational Psychology Service (EPs)
Educational Psychology Service (EPS) offers scheduled online sensory processing needs training which can be booked via Services for Schools. This can be commissioned by schools and partners. Bespoke training to settings/schools can also be delivered as part of their support package which would be negotiated between the school/settings and their educational psychologist and is not bookable through Services for Schools.
