An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) explains the support a child or young person with Special Educational Needs (SEN) needs. Before the plan is finished, you will see a draft version and can ask for changes.
What will the final EHCP contain?
There is no standard format for the EHCPs, but every plan must include certain section.

The final EHCP must also name:
- the type of school or college, and
- the specific school or college the child or young person will attend.
Once a school or college is named in the final plan, they must admit the child or young person and provide the support written in the plan.
Can we appeal the final EHCP?
Yes. When a final EHCP is issued, parents or the young person has the right to appeal to the SEND Tribunal.
What happens after the EHCP is finalised?
The plan must be reviewed yearly. This is known as an EHCP annual review.
