The Health and Wellbeing Board is responsible for identifying and developing an understanding of the needs and priorities of local communities in Derbyshire. This is done through the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA).

The JSNA reports on the health and wellbeing needs of people in Derbyshire. It brings together data on local health and wellbeing needs and looks ahead at emerging challenges and any future needs. This information then guides the future planning and commissioning of health and wellbeing services within Derbyshire.

The first JSNA was developed in 2008 and is reviewed and refreshed periodically to take into account the latest evidence and data, including work on specific topics or themes.

This involves:

  • assessments of health needs
  • the impact on health of any major developments or changes
  • data profiles of different areas or groups within Derbyshire
  • reviews of evidence - for example the effectiveness of interventions
  • mapping assets and resources already available locally.
